Practice Makes Progress.

January 1, 2021.

Although I’m not one to see January 1st as a complete renewal of everything that has happened in the past year, I think that everyone is eager to put 2020 behind them. However, I do believe in the power of building habits that eventually lead to those high-level resolutions that sometimes feel unattainable.

One of the last posts I wrote was about my struggle with perfectionism. The perfectionist voice in my head has continuously hindered my creativity, whether in photography, writing, or music. If I couldn’t absolutely NAIL it, then I shouldn’t be doing it at all.

My overall goal for this new year, this fresh start, is to enjoy the process of practice. I am going to be more intentional in practicing piano for my own enjoyment. I will work on certain photography projects and start printing photos to sell. I’m also going to commit to writing a piece on Medium at least once a month (maybe even more frequently).

Back when I had my blog, I enjoyed writing reviews on books, describing the scene or my thoughts behind taking a photo, or sharing the local food scene of Edmonton. Ever since I stopped blogging (because I got busy with school), I haven’t had many opportunities to practice my writing or to find my voice. My goal isn’t to just write more frequently, but to find my writing voice and to write more eloquently. Right now, it feels like a bit of a lost art.

Similar to how I watched my own photography evolve in 2020, I’m really looking forward to seeing how my writing style changes and evolves this year.
