The warmth of a campfire

With all the chaos happening in the world right now, I find myself retreating to a place of warmth, happiness, and hygge.

By the campfire.

Looking at this photo, I’m immediately thrown back to this moment when we went camping at Goldeye Lake, Alberta. The smell of the campfire, mingling with the fresh and crisp mountain air; the sound of the fire crackling, the sap hissing, and the merry laughter of my friends gathered around the campfire; my eyes, just barely attuned to the glow emitted by our fire; my hands turning cold as the temperatures cooled.

I could stare into a fire all day — its slow burn calming away any anxieties of the day.

After reading “The Art of Making Memories” by Meik Wiking, I’ve tried to be more intentional at creating and “storing” memories. Over time, I know that it’ll be hard to remember everything so I’m trying best to capture them in photos, or to simply take note of them in my journal to revisit at a later time.

Even though things may be different now and those people may no longer be in my life, there are certain memories that still bring a smile to my face.
